This blog has been created to support and celebrate the diverse roots music scene in Melbourne. My aim is to create an online platform for blues, roots, country, old-timey, Cajun, folk and roots-based musicians to showcase and discuss their work and broadcast their stories to the broader community. There are a number of excellent programs on community radio that support local roots music: Local and Live (Friday 12-2 on 3CR), and others on PBS, 3RRR which I will post at a later date. In as far as the written-word goes, however, there is very little information about Melbourne's roots music scene, online or otherwise. I therefore encourage members of the community, musicians and people interested in roots music to use this space as a public forum and contribute to the oral history of Melbourne roots music as it happens. I will be posting gig reviews, live footage, interviews, snapshots of Melb music history and ... whatever else I can squeeze in between raising a two year old! All contributions/ideas are very welcome.
For all enquiries, gig news, CD releases you want announced and other roots-music related topics please email melbournerootsblog@gmail.com
Fantastic, thanks C W. I defy anyone to try to turn that off half way through!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ced, Yes! CW Stoneking is incredibly talented - nice to him so stripped back and intimate.
